Volunteering
BE PART A OF A LIFE SAVING TEAM
We welcome applications from people over the age of 16 who wish to become volunteers with Ribble Valley Medical Team. Volunteering allows you to learn new skills, meet new friends, help those in need, help your community and have fun.
You do not need any first aid experience as we will provide your training. However, those with existing valid qualifications may be able to use them and move through the training process more quickly. We will assess all candidates at stages to ensure that we continue to meet our high standards.
To start the process of joining, you will need to contact us and express your interest in joining as a volunteer or click on the join now button to register your interest.
We will then send you a Joining Application Form and a disclosure and baring service form to obtain an enhanced disclosure of any criminal records you may have had. The criminal record check is carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service before we finalise the form.
Once the joining administration has been completed, you will be able to attend our weekly training sessions, and you will undertake some induction training before starting on our First Aider or Advanced First Aider training. This training will provide you with basic first-aid knowledge as well as important information on health & safety, safeguarding and event administration procedures. We will provide you with a uniform and identity card during this period.
Once your training is complete, you will be able to attend events, but a fully trained member of the medical team will supervise you. You will also now be able to start your first aider training,
Training Assessments will take place at various stages of your training, and once you have successfully passed all the modules, you can attend unsupervised events.
Members can develop their skills further and become advanced first aiders, but they will need to attend events and gain real experience with casualties for at least a year before applying.
To move to advanced first aider, members will need to demonstrate a high standard of first aid skills and knowledge through pre-course assessment. Again, this is to ensure we maintain high standards and protect members from stresses caused by taking on a role to which they may not be suited.
As well as uniformed first aiders, we also need support volunteers to help with fundraising, public relations, radio communications etc.
These roles are vital, and we welcome applications from people interested in helping us in this way.
If you are interested in joining, please let us know,
